About the Sets
We spent almost four days building the sets. The kids did almost all the work.
The tower room had two facades, one with a window and one for the back wall.
The tower minature was scaled so that a little doll in the window would look like Jacey.
The chocolate house was eight feet tall and had a working door.
The saga begins with Rennie's trip to Sutherlands Lumber Yard
for about 60 8-foot 1x2s and some other stuff as well.
Rennie, Brian's Dad, began construction that very day.
Abigail came out to pose with the first frame
while Rennie posed with a power tool.
The next day, Brian went to work with David giving instructions
and Abigail and Anna-Elin looking on.
As construction proceeded, Connie and Abi return
from a prop-gathering trip at McGuckin's Hardware.
Here, Brian, Abigail, and Jessie demonstrate the door
to the partially painted Chocolate House.
Here's what it looked like from the back.
Painting the tower wall was a major production.
At one point about 6 kids were spray painting it at once.
The cast and crew survived two separate mishaps:
The fumes made Matthew sick and Jessie got spray paint in her eye.
We started shooting before the paint was dry.
The tower minature was designed to look just like the full sized tower window.
We cut the window and painted the spots to scale.
Here are the two tower facades and the minature all together.
The setting was much more serene the day after we finished shooting.
Here's Connie's art shot of Nikki, David, and Abigail
posing behind the Chocolate House.
For good measure, here's a shot of Nikki, Connie, and Abigail
posing in front of the tower facades.
